MICA Sustainable Worm Project

About (WHY WORMS?)

“To cherish what remains of the Earth, and to foster its renewal is our only legitamate hope for survival.” –Wendell Berry

“Compost everything.” –Will Allen, Growing Power

Buddha Worms is a Baltimore-based,  non-profit worm project in association with The MICA Sustainable Food Project, the Maryland Institute College of Art, and the Buddha Garden.  Its goals are to supply red wiggler worms and indoor composting bins to as many as possible. Worm bins are a great way to reduce waste, observe the process by which food “breaks down,” and observe your diet through the eyes of another creature. Red wiggler composting is faster than passive outdoor compost, because the worms eat their weight in food scraps daily. Through producing compost, the project hopes to encourage a cyclical connection with soil, something that–as city-dwellers–can be difficult.

This website is intended to chronicle worm-bin-users successes and failures, and to share helpful information on vermicomposting.
