Before you begin, look over the main How To Build A Worm Bin page to read about the basic requirements of a bin. Once you know these you can deviate as much or little as you would like.
As previously mentioned, I prefer wooden bins. They absorb excess moisture better than plastic, can be cheaper if you build it yourself, and in the long run can break down instead of eventually sitting in a land fill. Additionally, I’m not so sure that the plastic in the bin doesn’t eventually leach into the soil. If you want to use your worm bin for the next 30 or so years, plastic is will not rot the way the untreated wood does.


1. Buy it, drill it, do it.
To make a plastic worm bin, just buy a big bin with a lid and drill holes (about four to an inch) in the top. Add bedding and you’re ready for worms.
